Close But No Cigar

Well, I played in three tournaments today on Poker Stars and all three had very positive results but all three were slightly shy of the real goods.

The first one was a $2 + .20 NL Hold Em Triple Shootout to the Sunday Million. I dominated my first two sit-n-go tables and was the 1st victor out of all tables both times. I accumulated chips early due to some nice aggressive play then used my superior chip stack to good advantage. Unfortunately, I went stone cold card dead at the final table and when I did try to pick up some blinds and antes to stay alive I ran into hands and unfortunately finished 5th. A strong tournament but a slightly disappointing result.

The second one was a $5 + .50 NLHE multi tournament with 1011 entrants. I ran a very strong tournament and was 1st overall in chips when we hit the money with 195 left. I stayed strong but ran into a superior hand when my top set got beat by quads and left me with less than $20k in chips with the blinds at $1/$2 thousand. I never recovered and ended up finishing 59th overall. Even despite not making it deeper, I can't be disappointed with the way I played at all and am happy with the outcome.

The third one was the $4 sit-n-go multi that runs constantly and tops out at 180 players. I was playing all three tournaments simultaneously and at one point I had just finished beating my second table in the triple shootout game and was chip lead in both this tournament and the $5 one so I was flying pretty high. My placement in this tournament was much stronger than the other as I finished up 4th overall. As with the $5 tournament I played very strong and aggressive and was awarded well with chips. The only thing I would say is at the final table I got a little bit too loose with hand selection and that cost me but still a very strong finish.

New Home... Found a new place to play poker

Hey strangers!! Well, it's been a very busy week, what with the move, getting the new place set up, doing address changes, and all the other shit that comes with doing a big move. Absolutely no time for any poker up until today, when I had a few hours to spare and went and checked out the casino in Penticton and to my delight found that they have two poker tables. On Friday night, both tables spread a $1/$2 No-limit game that starts at 2 in the afternoon. I was lucky enough to get a set as I was there at five minutes to two and not enough of the signed up players nor none of the alternates was there to fill the tables so I got a seat right away.

I was able to take advantage of my "new player" image to jump out to an early $100 lead but I saw that evaporate when my runner-runner straight got beat by a runner-runner flush and then my rebuy got evaporated when I hit pocket kings in the small blind and ended up being all-in preflop against the big blind who held pocket aces. Neither of us improved and I was busted out.

I wasn't disheartened by either beat though, as the runner-runner was a hard read and the aces vs kings was only raised $20 preflop and pushed for my last $16 ($36 total)... and you know I was gonna call the $20 so might as well get it all in there.

I liked my read of the table, too. I felt in fine form as I had pegged the one aggessive player, three tighty-whitey's and the one player I gave any credence to.

Gotta build my bankroll.

How you Victoria mothers doing anyway?
