Session #58 - Rockin' It Out at The Rock

So my work took me to Vancouver on Thursday and I managed to stop in at the River Rock Casino Resort which has a huge 25 table poker room. What a great atmosphere they have there. Food and drinks at the table. Pop and tap water is free if you like, but everything else you pay for. There was a couple of models wandering around in those Vegas outfits so there was some pleasant eye candy wandering around.

Two things that were very different that caught me off guard was the fact that you can't "buy the button". This happens when you miss the big blind due to being away from the table but return in time for the small blind then you can post both blinds and continue playing. They don't do this at River Rock, they force you to wait until the button has passed and then you're still forced to post the blinds. Kinda dumb in my opinion. The other was the fact that you have to post a blind when you first sit down at a table. I figure this is the norm but not something I've had to do in some time.

I had a great table image going as my bluffs were not called and my big hands were. I missed the first few hands and had to rebuy $40 to top off my stack but then I went on a run where my stack was topped out at $450. I got involved in a couple of big hands that didn't work out and at one point tried to push a guy out of a $50 pot with AJ suited with a nut flush draw on the flop but he called with top pair and the flush never realized. That one hurt the stack a bit.

I also bumped into one of the guys from the clubhouse and he introduced me to another long-time poker player from Victoria.

In the end it was a satisfying experience and I walked away with a decent amount of cashola.
